Ellis County Historic Courthouse in Waxahachie, Texas

Texas is defined by its picturesque town squares, and the Ellis County Historic Courthouse makes downtown Waxahachie one of the most iconic. First opened to the public in 1897, the courthouse is known for its elegant Richardson-Romanesque architecture and unique carvings, many of which have unique legends to tell. From humble frontier beginnings to a little-known Civil War skirmish, and from pioneers of women’s rights to encounters with famous – and infamous – historical figures, the Ellis County Historic Courthouse is one of the few in Texas whose walls really do “talk!”

Meet Your Docent:

Corey Rogan is the Public Relations Officer for the Ellis County Judge. As a lifelong enthusiast for American history, Corey began offering tours of the Ellis County Historic Courthouse as part of his work for the county, and he soon decided that there were many other historical properties in his community that deserved to be showcased. Corey founded American Medley in 2024 with the mission of providing historic tours to tell the story of God’s hand in American heritage.
